American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD)

AAPD is the largest national nonprofit cross-disability member organization in the United States, dedicated to ensuring economic self-sufficiency and political empowerment for the more than 56 million Americans with disabilities. AAPD works in coalition with other disability organizations for the full implementation and enforcement of disability nondiscrimination laws, particularly the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Association of University Centers on Disabilities

The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (formerly the American Association of University Affiliated Programs for Persons with Developmental Disabilities) is a nonprofit organization that promotes and supports the national network of university centers on disabilities, which includes University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD), Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Programs, and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (DDRC).

There are currently two UCEDDs in California: Tarjan Center for Developmental Disabilities, University of California, Los Angeles Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital, Los Angeles, and the USC University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Childrens Hospital, Los Angeles.

The intent of the website is to sensitize people to what it's like to grow up with a medical problem. Too often, youngsters so affected must cope with stigma as well as with their medical conditions. Teasing often accompanies this stigma, and adds a layer of pain to their experience of childhood.

Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.

Brookes Publishing Co.

For 27 years, Brookes has published highly respected resources in early childhood, early intervention, inclusive and special education, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, communication and language, behavior, and mental health.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

This extensive website has many health and safety topics, including those on birth defects and disabilities.

Center Center for Prevention & Early Intervention (CPEI)

WestEd’s Center for Prevention and Early Intervention in Sacramento, provides statewide high quality training, technical assistance and resource development, dissemination, and support to state agencies and community programs that administer or provide prevention and early intervention services. The state agencies have included the California Departments of Education, Developmental Services, Health Services, Social Services, Mental Health, and Alcohol and Drug Programs.

The Center for Prevention and Early Intervention is recognized as California’s premier source of training, technical assistance and resource development and provision supporting early intervention services for infants and toddlers with disabilities and at-risk conditions and their families.

Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities

The consortium is a coalition of approximately 100 national disability organizations working together to advocate for national public policy that ensures the self-determination, independence, empowerment, integration and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in all aspects of society.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

Division for Early Childhood (DEC)

The Division for Early Childhood (DEC) is one of 17 divisions of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) - the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. DEC is especially for individuals who work with or on behalf of children with special needs, birth through age eight, and their families.

Founded in 1973, the Division is dedicated to promoting policies and practices that support families and enhance the optimal development of children. Children with special needs include those who have disabilities, developmental delays, are gifted/talented, or are at risk of future developmental problems.

Easter Seals Disability Services

Easter Seals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for more than 80 years. From child development centers to physical rehabilitation and job training for people with disabilities, Easter Seals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life's challenges and achieve personal goals.

Easter Seals provides exceptional services to ensure that all people with disabilities have equal opportunity to live, learn, work and play. Easter Seals has more than 500 centers nationwide, benefiting over 1 million people every year. There are 56 centers in California.

Kids Included Together (KIT)

Kids Included Together (KIT) was founded in 1997. Its mission is to support recreational, child development, and youth development programs that include children with and without disabilities. KIT's goals are to enrich the lives of all who participate and to increase understanding and acceptance of disabilities as a natural part of life.

National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY)

The National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities, better known as NICHCY, serves the nation as a central source of information on disabilities in infants, toddlers, children, and youth; IDEA, which is the law authorizing special education; No Child Left Behind (as it relates to children with disabilities); and research-based information on effective educational practices.

The NICHCY website features A-Z Topics, a series of web resource pages on topics of high interest and concern to the well-being of children with disabilities.

Pathways Awareness Foundation

Pathways Awareness Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the benefit of early detection and early therapy for children with physical movement differences. It focuses on physical, movement, and motor delays and disabilities.

VSA arts of California

The mission of VSA arts of California is to create, develop, and promote opportunities for artistic expression and education throughout the state that can be experienced by individuals of all abilities.

Western Regional Resource Center

The Western Regional Resource Center is part of a network of technical assistance agencies funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). The center is a program in the University of Oregon Center For Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at the College of Education. It offers consultation, technical assistance, training, product development and information services that provide the states access to current special education policy, technology and best practices research. It also assists state agencies in developing collaborative and networking relationships with stakeholders, other states, and other technical assistance providers across regional boundaries.
